Motivation to Stay Smoke-Free

Posted Jan 05 2011 12:02pm
Gooooood morning!

It’s a freeeeeeezing morning here in San Diego. I’m inside; still bundled up in a scarf and jacket, sipping on my coffee, and still can’t get warm. Brrr!

So it’s been 2 days now that I’ve been back to eating healthily, back to a schedule, and back to feeling good—I love it! As much fun as it is to let loose every now and then, enjoy the holidays and not worry about every little thing, I operate much better following some sort of routine.

Anyway, here was dinner last night-

Tilapia and Veggies. The veggies are sautéed zucchini, squash and onion. So good!

No meet my motivation to stay smoke free!

Among many other things, of course! Right now I can get by—I manage doing anywhere from 20-30 minutes on this wonderful evil machine, but it’s hard! Besides sprinting on the treadmill, this is probably the most intense cardio I do and although I can get it done, I find that I run out of breath quite easily on it….I blame it on the smoking! However; in a month and a half, I will have been smoke-free for 2 years! (YAY ME) So the fact that I still have trouble catching my breath SCARES me and motivates me even more to NOT SMOKE! I know cardio isn’t supposed to be easy, but anyone who smokes or did smoke, knows the difference you feel…it’s not always that feel good, workout feeling—It’s more like an out of shape, I just can’t breathe feeling and I know I’m not out of shape!

So I’m staying smoke free, I’m going to keep utilizing this machine and I’m going to be able to BREATHE!!!! And in light of my “anniversary” in February, I’m going to make an effort to post any useful tips, or facts, or information for those of you who smoke and are considering quitting.

Last night I did Chest/Shoulders/Tris

Cable Chest Press Cable Flies Dips
4×15 @ 25#  4×15 @ 20# 4×15

Dumbbell Shoulder Press  Tricep Pushdowns w/Bar Side Lateral Raise with Cable
4×12 @ 20# 2×15 @ 35# 4×12 @ 10#
  2×12 @ 40#

Seated Lateral Raise
4×15 @ 5#
Then 20 minutes on the Stairs. I tried doing speed intervals on them. I’d do 1 minute on level 10 and then drop back down to 6 for a minute and repeated that until I could not breathe!!! :/

In time I know it’ll get easier–so for now exercise continues to be one of my biggest motivations to stay smoke-free!!!
