According to a study by researchers at McMaster University, milk might be the best drink post workout, as it helps you gain muscle and burn fat. The researchers looked at the effects of drinking two cups of skim milk after a workout, versus a soy drink with the same amount of protein, and a sports drink with the same amount of energy. The study, which involved three groups of men 18-30 years of age, resulted in the milk drinking group losing almost twice as much fat (two pounds) as the sports drinking group (one pound), while the soy drinkers lost no fat. All the men had the same weightlifting routine five days a week over twelve weeks. Also, the milk drinkers gained 40% more muscle (2.5 pounds) than the soy milk drinkers and 63% more (3.3 pounds) than the sports drink group.
