Are you wearing a milk mustache? You might want to wipe it off.
We grow up learning that milk does a body good. But, does it really? Here are some facts about milk that you may not know.
T. Colin Campbell says,
“Casein causes a broad spectrum of adverse effects. Among other fundamental effects, it makes the body more acidic, alters the mix of hormones and modifies important enzyme activities, each of which can cause a broad array of more specific effects. One of these effects is its ability to promote cancer growth (by operating on key enzyme systems, by increasing hormone growth factors and by modifying the tissue acidity). Another is its ability to increase blood cholesterol (by modifying enzyme activities) and to enhance atherogenesis, which is the early stage of cardiovascular disease.”
So, if you love milk (but are now concerned about it’s negative qualities), it may be time to add in some healthier substitutes like almond milk, rice milk, or coconut milk to begin to crowd out the cow’s milk. I know you will find one of those alternatives tasty and delicious!
Oh, you might be wondering about organic milk. Well, while it may be free of hormones and drugs, it is still pasteurized and processed, and it still contains casein. And, raw milk? Raw milk from your farmer’s market would be your best bet if you are a stickler for cow’s milk, but your better option will still be one of the alternatives mentioned above.
