From what I understand.... From what I understand of the macrobiotic diet, its goal is to restore health through the consideration of food's "energetic" qualities. Macrobiotic diet theory is based on the idea that health is impacted by more than just what we eat--it's also what we see, wear, how and where we live, and how we communicate. There are two basic kinds of energy in macrobiotic theory--yin (expansive) and yang (contractive). Also, if you have a macrobiotic diet, you are recommended to eliminate from your diet processed food, vitamins, toxic foods (from the nightshade group), or foods that are extremely expansive (alcohol) or contractive (meat). Macrobiotic theory places a premium on "whole" foods, non-dairy products, and a vegetarian diet with a small amont of fish.
