Thank y'all for sharing all your veggie dietary habits; I really enjoyed reading your comments. It seems like most of you are part-time meat eaters, like moi, and it was interesting to hear why. To continue yesterday's celebration of World Vegetarian Day, Abe and I enjoyed a meat-free dinner at a new restaurant (for us), Susan Feniger's Street:

We've been wanting to try this place since it opened this past spring - it's dedicated to street food from all around the world. I had earned enough points on Opentable to get a $20.00 gift certificate, so we made an easy online reservation. There's valet parking in the back but it was easy enough to find street parking on some of the side streets.
We sat in the funky outdoor area...

...where you can spy on the chefs:

Here's my seat:

I don't think Julius would've been welcome here.
Abe started off with a Mango Lassi, which I had a sip of.

I've never had one served with ice - the ones I've tried have always been blended into a shake/smoothie. It was nice and thick, not too sweet.
These cute millet puffs came to the table first -

They tasted like rice krispie treats, doused in indian spices. We devoured them.
For an appetizer, we got the mandoo vegetable dumplings (asian veggies and sweet potato noodles with roasted honey yam and sesame dipping sauce):

They were just okay. I've had better dumplings for a lot less than $9.00. I ate my portion of 2.5 pieces, with just a little bit of the sauce.
Abe and I also shared a side portion of Roasted Beets and Beet Greens:

And the Saag Paneer, Kokum Dal, and Rice Plate (south indian spinach dish stewed with homemade paneer cheese, tomato and spices; served with dried plum dal and yogurt rice):

My first plate:

And s'more of the beets/beet greens:

All in all, the food was pretty tasty but not mind-blowing. It would be a really cool place to go with friends - and they have a happy hour from 4-7pm where all food/drink is under $5...might be fun to try that sometime.
On the way back, we swung by the Gallery Space at " Space 15 Twenty" -

They had a terrific print series of the upcoming film " Where the Wild Things Are" (which Abe and I are both very excited for).
Some sketches and drawings:

A whole bunch of awesome behind-the-scenes photos:

My faves:

I heart Spike Jonze:

He is definitely one of my dream directors to work with.
The Urban Outfitters at Space 15 Twenty had an insane "Where the Wild Things Are" store display:

Back home I had some dessert - Late July sent us some cookies to sample. From their website: " They are organic, a good source of calcium and whole grain...These Mini Sandwich Cookies contain no trans fat, no hydrogenated oils, no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives, and are lacto (dairy) vegetarian."

The mini cookies had adorable animals on them, which represent seven endangered animals (10% of their profits go to the Jane Goodall Institute).

Obviously I was indulging my inner child tonight.

I also snacked on some frozen figs and 1/2 an organic apple. Plus a ginger chew.
By the way - the folks at Ginger People are offering our readers a 15% discount for the month of October! This might be a good time to stock on some chews (I know I will be), or to pass out as a healthier Halloween candy. Just enter the coupon code "ACTDIET" when checking out.
I've been feeling that weird mild flu-like sickness I felt in August. I wanted something cold and carbonated so I had a Root Beer Zevia.

Have a great weekend!
