Alright, I am on an avocado kick. I can't help it - I'm in California, it's summer, it's too hot to think of eating anything except for foods high in moisture and nutrition. My friendly neighborhood avocado fits the bill. I wanted to share some nutrition information I just learned regarding cholesterol:
Although the avocado is a fatty fruit (but the good kind) it also contains an ingredient called beta-sitosterol. This is a plant sterol and has been shown to potentially lower cholesterol. In 3 oz of the fruit, there are 76 mg of beta-sitosterol. I mean... do you need any more reason to skip the fatty condiments and pick yourself up an avocado! Bon appetit!
