I don’t really eat breakfast cereal these days, but I was starting to miss summertime bowls of cereal piled high with peaches and berries. Then I realized it wasn’t the cereal I was missing. The cereal was just a vehicle for the fruit.
I eat a lot of fruit in yogurt, which is satisfying. But yogurt is tangy and I missed the way the simple creaminess of milk showed off the summer fruit’s own tang. If it was the creaminess I liked, then what about... cream? This led to my latest addiction: summer fruit with cream.
We’re in the height of peach season right now, and you can still find plenty of blueberries, blackberries, some ever-bearing strawberries, a few raspberries, and the first of the wild huckleberries.
Summer fruit with cream
Assortment of your favorite ripe, local fruit such as peaches, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, huckleberries, strawberries, nectarines, apricots...
Some good cream,
A big spoon. Or two if you want to share.
Chop fruit and put in bowl
2. Pour on cream
Repeat steps 1 & 2 often
Freudian slip side-note: I first typed this recipe’s title as “Summer cream with fruit.” Depending on how fond you are of cream, maybe you should call it that instead.
