I'm reallylooking forward to spring this year. Yes, like everyone else I can't wait for the nice weather, but I'malso looking forward to planting a garden in my front yard. Front yard, you ask? Yes, for one, it would be so much more convenient to just walk out my front door from my kitchen to get to it. And two, it would be just the right size for my sunny front yard. Three, it's economical.
I was inspired by this man in Scarborough (Maine) named Roger Doiron. He's the guy urging President Obama to do the same — to plant vegetable gardens on the White House lawn. He started a Web site called Kitchen Gardeners International.
I also decided to take a class in March on home canning, so that I can have some of the things I grow next winter. I friend of mine recently brought over a jar of "dilly beans" made from string beans she had grown over the summer. I thought it would be fun to make these, too.
I'm going to start small, but I thought it would be a great project. And, as you know ... I love vegetables! So why not have my own fresh kale and a few other things (Brussels sprouts?), freshly picked all summer?
Maybe you might be inspired, too. Have you ever considered a "kitchen garden"?
