Kashi Chicken Rustico Pocket Bread Sandwich

Posted Mar 24 2009 3:03pm

Kashi Chicken Rustico I have been eyeballing Kashi's Pocket Bread Sandwiches for a while - ever since I first saw them at my local Piggly Wiggly. But, at $3.89 for ONE frozen sandwich, I just couldn't bring myself to commit. This past weekend though I saw them at Publix for $3.19 each and decided to give them a try. They come in three flavors: Turkey Fiesta, Veggie Medley and Chicken Rustico. Described as being "full of flavor in every bite, combining marinated garlic chicken, spinach, fire roasted red peppers, crimini mushrooms with Parmesan cheese and a roasted garlic, white wine tomato sauce", I settled on the Chicken Rustico.

Kashi Chicken Rustico Upon preparing said pocket, the first thing I noticed was that the package specifically says these are intended for microwave use only and are not to be prepared in a toaster or conventional oven. That totally cracked me up ... is something horrible going to happen to my little chicken pocket if I put it in the oven? Will it spontaneously combust launching Seven Whole Grains on a Mission all over my kitchen? Anyway, I was an obedient consumer and microwaved the pocket, as instructed, for 2 minutes and then let it sit for an additional 2. It's a decent size; maybe a little heftier than a hot pocket but more round in shape. The outside bread was soft, tasty and kind of herb-y, but the inside of the bread was a little squishy from the moisture in the filling which I wasn't crazy about. The filling itself was good but after a couple of bites it got too salty for me. On the package, the veggies look very vibrant, but not so much live and in person. There also doesn't seem to be as much actual chicken as is pictured [ Photo Credit: VisualRecipes.com ]

... There's more. Continue reading 'Kashi Chicken Rustico Pocket Bread Sandwich'...
