
This is simply another word for sugar, and sugar in all of its forms is not healthy. You should really try and steer clear of it. Try sweeteners like STEVIA if you need something sweet as it is a VERY healthy sweetener that is actually known to reduce your chances of getting diabetes - something REGULAR sugar does NOT do - so please try and avoid it!

Another interesting sugar substitute that is not a chemical concoction if you want to do some baking is coconut sugar. The glycemix rating is much lower than normal sugar and it has actual nutrients in it.
That being said - sugar should be used in moderation as it has not one redeeming quality other than the fact that we seem to love it.
