If You Drink Soda (Even Diet) Your Teeth May Suffer

Posted by Julie M.

It's common knowledge that certain foods, such as sweets and sodas, can hasten tooth enamel erosion, not to mention that colas can stain your teeth. Now a recent study has found that all carbonated drinks have some impact on tooth enamel, especially citrus-flavored sodas like Sprite and 7-Up. And diet sodas are just as bad because it isn't just the sugar that's bad for your teeth; it's the acids in bubbly drinks that erode teeth enamel. Root beer is the only kind of soda that is relatively easy on the teeth. If you still want to drink soda, look for total acid content and acid type; phosphoric, citric, malic, and tartaric acids are the worst. But both sipping your soda through a straw and rinsing out your mouth afterwards may get rid of some of that acid. (Your mother always told you soda was no good for you anyway)
