I believe that ever since my love of wine began, I’ve been on a subconscious journey to find the MOST excellent wines for the MOST excellent prices. I find myself scouring the aisles for far too long, in awe of all the choices and diversity amongst the shelves, and in a search for a price tag that catches my eye. It’s all led me to one final conclusion: exceptional, affordable wines DO exist!
Thanks to my very best friend, I was introduced to one of my favorites-

Never more than $10–Chateau Ste. Michelle has yet to let me down.
Tonight I tried something new. Barefoot Riesling for…$4.99

For $4.99 a bottle I’d definitely get this again, why not? I love the cap!

It’s funny because I used to stay away from screw caps on wines because, well I don’t really know why actually!? But I’ve recently discovered that not only have screw caps become more prevalent, they also protect your wine from “cork taint” Yep…cork taint! It’s a chemical compound that can infuse any wine exposed to it and leave a very unsatisfying aroma and flavor.
However, I do have to say that I’m quite obsessed with corks lately. You know how some people collect baseball cards or coins? Well I’ve started collecting corks-

I made a little centerpiece out of them–hopefully it won’t fill up too fast!
I made Tofu last night-

I used Extra Firm and made sure to drain for 20 minutes before I started cooking.
Sauteed onion and garlic
Mixed in Tofu and mushrooms
Splash of soy sauce
Added a little Spinach
Much better than my last Tofu experience!
The Boo and I are going away this weekend…all the way to Downtown San Diego!
We’re packing it up to do a little exploring in this beautiful city that we live in! I’m hoping the rain doesn’t put too much of a damper on our “trip,” but either way I’m sure we’ll have a good time. I see some wining and dining in our near future, YAY!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
P.S. I just wanted to add that as much as I love wine, I never drink during the week. I love learning about wine, talking about wine, thinking about wine (HA) but I definitely don’t drink it as much as it may seem–and it’s always almost always done in moderation.
