In light of my
official 10 month no smoking anniversary (yay me), I’ve decided to share some tips for those of you out there who have or are contemplating
quitting–these are just a few of the things that helped me-
Don’t share with too many people that you’re quitting until you actually do it—I can’t even count the number of times that I announced I had “quit.”—I would last for a good day or two but I would inevitably light back up, forcing disdain upon my family and friends. Also, when telling a lot of people it can cause an unneeded amount of pressure and that’s one thing you don’t want to feel when you’ve just quit smoking… pressure! It’s a form of stress. And what does stress do? It induces cravings. So try to keep it on the DL until you feel like you have it under control—I shared it with only a few close family and friends in the beginning who I knew would be there to support me.

Keep BUSY! Try not to give yourself too much free time to think about the fact that you’re not smoking. Make plans with friends to get out of the house and keep your mind off of cigarettes. Catch up on work. Do a MAJOR house/room clean. Read. Avoid boredom at all costs!
Get rid of/stay away from “triggers.” Things like caffeine or alcohol. From a smoker’s perspective, there’s nothing quite like either of these things and a cigarette to go along with it. So STAY AWAY! They will only trigger cravings, so why torture yourself?!
Exercise! This is probably one of the things that helped me the most throughout the process of quitting. Whenever the idea of lighting up crossed my mind I’d try to do some form of physical activity. In the beginning it wasn’t easy but the more I did it, the easier it became and the more I found that I could actually breathe.
Healthy Snacking-Drink plenty of water—it’ll help fight the no smoking munchies. You definitely want to keep your mouth occupied but not with junk food, so rid the house of your unhealthy foods and make sure to stock up on easily accessible healthy snacks. Some of my faves: Carrots & Almonds.
It’s said that a craving usually lasts 5 minutes—Acknowledge it, fight it, and find something to do that will take up that time. Once the craving has passed, and it will, you’ll be so proud that you stayed strong and it’ll only encourage you to keep fighting the fight.
Reward yourself with your favorite perfume/cologne—spray and enjoy! Confession: Sometimes I sit and smell my hair JUST for fun now. I’m continuously surprised by how good I smell
and it’s nice being able to use perfume for reasons other than to mask my smoky aroma.
Make a list of why you want to quit. Have a craving? Review the list and keep it all in mind.
Some things on my list: Health/Family/Pretty Teeth/Missing my Mom…it goes on and on…
Long controlled deep GLORIOUS breathes- Why? Because you can!

Dessert tonight was something new–I finally made some homemade Banana Soft Serve! I took all the bananas that I had left in the freezer and put them in my magic bullet-

Look how smooth it came out–and that’s JUST banana!

With just a few taps I had myself Banana Soft Serve! I topped it with some really great Cranberry Walnut Granola that I got last week from the ladies at Zaydie’s. hehe There may or may not be a giveaway in the very near future…stay tuned! Anyway-

Kind of resembles my FroYo from Sat. night doesn’t it? Tasted like it too!
It was faaaaabulous! Happy Anniversary to meeeeee!
