I Try Not To Waste Food. It's hard, when you live alone, because so many portions and food sizes are meant for more than one person. For example, if I get a bag of spinach for some salad, it's often hard for me to finish it before it goes bad. But when I go to a restaurant, I almost always take unused portions home and have them for lunch the next day.
Not much!. I really hate wasting food! My in-laws waste a tremendous amount. I also remember my starving student days. I have recipes that combat food wasting:
I take a hand blender to mix leftover meat with cream cheese and spices, for a pate spread;
I will throw chopped up veggies into pasta sauce, "Puttanesca style";
I poach very ripe fruits in sweet red wine, for a fancy dessert;
Stale -- but not moldy -- bread becomes croutons for my Caesar salads.
Hmmm.... Well, I try not to waste food, but I also compost, which I hope helps. Whenever I go to restaurants, if I don't finish my food, I'll have it packed up and either eat it the next day or give it to a hungry homeless person.
