Home Slice Pizza

Posted Aug 31 2009 11:06pm
Good Afternoon!
I had a bit of a relapse yesterday and was just not up for sharing how much we loved Homeslice Pizza.  This sickness thing is a bit of bummer.  The kids actually felt better yesterday but I got a second wind of it and was basically out for the count yesterday.  As you know, Mom's really can't get sick, so that makes it even worse and then part of this illness has nausea.  I freaking love to eat and food brings so much joy into my life that this has been almost tramatic for me.  See you actually want to eat but once you do your stomach goes crazy and gurgles and makes you feel like you need to get sick.  If I did not know better, I would think I was preggers (that would surely send my husband over the edge, myself included.) but I think I am just at the tale end of this little bug and can't wait to feel like a productive human being again.
I even had to breakdown and buy a Coke Zero in hopes that it would settle my stomach.  I don't drink soda (it is loaded with chemicals and bad for you) but one is not going to kill me and it really did work.  Thank you Coke!  On a side note, I used to work for Coca-Cola and they had those adorable little glass Coke bottles and that is the absolute best hangover cure.  I worked in New Orleans at the time and hangovers sometimes happened but one of those little Cokes and you were well on your way to recovery.
Okay, so back to pizza!  Mission accomplished.  We made it to Homeslice Pizza on Saturday and had the best pizza.  The pizza is so good that I personally thought it was better the next day cold.  This place sells classic New York style pies and they were outstanding.  I can't wait to go back again.  We ordered just a Plain Cheese for the kids and the # 4 for Steve and I, bascially the veggie pie.
Home Slice Pizza is an independent neighborhood pizza joint serving authentic NY-style pizza—by the pie or by the slice—to nice people like you. We offer our home made, hand tossed, bonafide pies for either dine in or carry out.
The # 4-Spinach, roasted red pepper, green olives, onions
Pear gorgonzola salad

Mixed greens w/walnuts and Dijon vinaigrette

Cheese Pizza- Yum!
Home Slice is super cute and very kid-friendly.  We got seated right away in a booth and the service was great.  We love this place and I can't wait to go back and try out some of the other pies.  The crust is amazing, the sauce is delicious and the veggie was fantastic especially with the green olives, thinly sliced onion and spinach.  The other thing I noted was that it was not too cheesey, just the right amount.  Mmm.... I wish I had some leftovers right about now.  I missed out due to my illness but I suspect we may be going back sooner rather than later.

The Pear Gorganzola Salad was amazing too.  That is a great combo.  Home Slice is definitely worth taking the drive to South Congress for and you are in a cool area so you can do a little window shopping as well.

After pizza, we headed over to the kids favorite candy store- Big Top.  This is such a great old-fashioned candy shop and they even have some of the old unique candy that we grew up with, think candy cigarettes, Salted Nut Rolls, Sky Bars.  I am such a good mother when my kids are sick I take them out for pizza and candy and then a stop at Blockbuster so we can be slugs all afternoon!  Sometimes you just need a day like that.

So I have been debating whether I should rant about my hubby or not, it is not the nicest thing to do and I don't think he reads my blog because you see he is a "real" writer and my style drives him a bit nut.  Did I mention that he is a perfectionist..... (see right here where I just put the dots, that drives him batty).  So I guess since I have already started, I might as well clear the air shall we say.  So I admit that I did a bit of complaining and whining while I was sick but hey, you got to milk it while you can and believe me, if Steve was sick he would be a hell of a lot worse than me...... he would think that he had cancer and would be all over Yahoo Health coming up with horrible diseases that he had contracted (he is not allowed on Yahoo Health) and even if you are a slight hypochondria you should not get on Yahoo Health, trust me!  So I was a bit bummed out yesterday, that I had basically had a little relapse and maybe had a little hissy fit about being a slug all day and not gettting to enjoy food but then he RIPS into me getting mad at me that I have Not let myself just be sick and that he saw me trying to workout (not true) and that I just need to relax!  Well, let's just say that did not go over very well with me.  Sometimes you just need a little ear to listen to you and say hey it will be alright, but NO... he literally punched the bed with his fist and yelled at me that I was not taking care of myself.  Well, that might be a slight exaggeration but very slight!    That is where I come back to Mom's are not allowed to be sick and that I better just call a good friend and vent instead of engaging  my husband.

There you have it, I vented I feel slightly better, a little guilty but hope that some of you can relate to this and now I am going to move on and forgive him and hope to have a little more grace the next time I get sick.

The great news is that I am actually STARVING right now and can't wait to go and make lunch.  I hope all of you stay happy and healthy and I will check back with some good eats soon.
