Holy hypocrisy, Batman!

Posted Aug 10 2010 5:05am
I stumbled upon two studies, back to back, that caused even me to become speechless. Needless to say, that falls into the category of airborne swine and frozen magma.

One study comes out of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, whining and moaning through the stereotypical mantra of "People are so fat and they aren't getting any thinner what can we do about it since they are just big fat slobs who don't care." As if to answer the question, this study appears, saying that when obese women unknowingly add sugary soft drinks to their diets, they don't suffer and ill effects from the sugar, including mood swings, weight gain, etc. This eye-opening study was partially funded by (drum roll please) the Scot Sugar Bureau. Thank you, laddie, I can rest easy now, knowing that my touchy blood sugar, obesity, and pre-diabetes are all a result of psychology, not sugar's narcotic-like effect on my body. What a bunch of doofs. Experts bleat about the so-called obesity epidemic, even though the new definition of obesity puts millions more in that category, while, at the same time, they unload propaganda disguised as science to tell us that sugar's ill effects are all in our head.

One free breakfast days, the students at my school are given Pop Tarts. For lunch yesterday, they were given bean and cheese burritos (sugar), chicken nuggets (sugar), ketchup (lots 'o' sugar), pizza (sugar), salads with a roll and croutons (sugar), baked potato chips (sugar), and strawberry or chocolate milk, or orange drink (sugar). Many of them look like rolly-polies, with big bellies and lots of upper abdominal fat, with poor test scores and even poorer class room behavior. But, according to the experts, it's not due to all the sugar in their diet. It must be due to...well, to when the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars?

On a lighter note, we received our first order from Low Carb U , and we are in bready heaven. The Everything bagel is big, with only 6 grams of carb per serving, and even though I could only eat half, slathered in butter, I was a happy camper. It's nice to eat a low-carb bread product that doesn't taste like powdery cardboard. We also ordered hot dog buns, but haven't tried them yet.

Also, if you haven't tried Low Carb Luxury's cheese sauce, you are missing out:

1 c. heavy cream
1/2 c. water
2 c. shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1/4 t. garlic salt
1 t. powdered mustard
1/4 t. paprika
1/4 t. Worcestershire sauce (French's uses no HFCS)

Put all ingredients in a double boiler, or a metal bowl over a saucepan with an inch or so of boiling water, and whisk until smooth. Other ingredients can be added, such as a tablespoon of lemon juice, curry powder, or any other spice that suits your fancy.

I layered diced left-over chicken, cooked cauliflower, and cheese sauce, and microwaved it until hot all the way through. It was delicious.

This week's items that helped keep me on track: Cream cheese and dried-beef roll-ups, and root beer floats made with Breyer's Carb Smart vanilla ice cream and Diet A & W root beer. Summer truly is here when I can be found with float-foam on the tip of my nose.

The Bionic Broad out.
