High Fructose Corn Syrup As Bad As Sugar

Posted by Nirmala N.

According to a study from researchers at Rutgers University, sodas that are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup could contribute to the onset of diabetes, particularly when they’re consumed in large amounts. In fact, the study shows that high fructose corn syrup may pose just as large a risk as sugar. While nutrition experts say the study results aren’t conclusive, most scientists agree that in general, Americans are consuming too many calories—particularly the empty ones, with soda, fatty foods, or sweets. Thus, they recommend a lower calorie intake, fewer sugars, and more exercise to work off excess calories.

The worst thing about corn syrup compared to sugar is that sugar at least has a chance of being somewhat natural. Corn syrup has been processed within an inch of its life. And it is in absolutely everything!!! (Ever read a label on your basic bottle of ketchup?) Oh me oh my.
