When we think healthy shopping, we think about what we are going to buy. How about thinking about what we will put the stuff in?After a healthy shopping trip, what if instead of stuffing it all into paper and plastic bags, we use clothe bags?I know it sounds a bit far out, but I have been doing it for a while now, and it is not that difficult.Simply buy a couple of good quality sturdy cloth bags and store them in the trunk of the car. When you go shopping, just put all the stuff in these bags and carry them home.Thinking about what you are doing for the environment will make you feel great.I promise!
You make a great point! I want to do this but my husband isn't into it, which is surprising since we use cloth diapers and he doesn't have a problem with that at all. I want to just buy a bunch of canvas/cloth/whatever the fabric might be bags (they sell them at grocery stores, department stores, and dollar stores) and use those. I would like to do my part for the environment, but hubby likes using disposable bags for his work lunch. In a sense, he is reusing but I don't think that's enough. He's the one who does the grocery shopping so I'll just have to keep working on him...or buy the bags myself and force him!
Wal-Mart is selling the canvas-type bags now. I think this is a great idea. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm taking baby steps! My first goal is to switch to all natural cleaning products. Our grandmothers did it - so can we!
