Healthy, Convenient New Breakfast Foods

They’re harder to find than Cheetoes, but there are a few new convenient breakfast food items that get high marks for nutritional content. A few standouts include SunMilk (, a new brand of milk that replaces saturated fat with healthy monounsaturated fats from sunflower oil. It has the same amount of calories and fat as traditional 1% and 2% milk, respectively, but with more calcium, protein, and vitamin D that regular milk. Its cows have never been treated with the growth hormone rBGH, another plus. The only minus is it’s only available in Southern California and Las Vegas. For now. Nature’s Path Organic SmartBran cereal scores for its high fiber (more than 10 grams) and low sugar (less than 5 grams) content. Plus, it’s organic, and provides both soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Stonyfield 2-a-Day yogurt contains no fat, cholesterol, artificial sweeteners, growth hormones, or preservatives. It does offer a whopping 500 mg of calcium, three grams of fiber, Vitamin D, and six unique blends of active live culture. Geez, pair it with the SmartBran (above) for a power breakfast! For more punch, add a glass of Minute Maid Heart Wise orange juice, fortified with cholesterol-lowering plant sterols.
