Happy New Year! I rang in the new year with my good friends and had a wonderful time. My wonderful Karen hosted a few people at her home for a homemade tortilla and margarita party. All was delicious! It was the perfect way to ring in the new year.
2012 was a bit of a blur for me. It wasn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination. I had wonderful events happen in my life and was a part of many excellent adventures. But overall I felt more like 2012 happened to me rather than I happened to 2012.
2013 is NOT going to be that way. I dedicated a majority of my life in 2012 to work. The result of that hard work is a great project that came to life that I am extremely proud of. However, I want to find a better balance this year. I need to focus on me, myself and I.
I have named 2013 the Year of Erin! You know how on the Chinese Zodiac calendar they have the year of the rooster or the year of the tiger? Well, this year they need to block out a new spot for the Erin.
I’m not making any specific resolutions or goals (I use my 32 While 32 list to cross of big events!), but I’m just planning on making a conscious effort to be better to myself. Make better food choices, say Yes a little more often to fun adventures, and pave my own path a little more.
I spend a lot of time worrying/thinking about the future. How will my career work out? Where am I going to buy a home? Where will I travel? All of these questions are important to ask. However, I think it might be more important for me to ask the question and plan, but not dwell on it.
Last year’s word of the year was ORGANIZE. I did a GREAT job with this. I cleaned out old clothes, boxes that I hadn’t been through since I moved to my current apartment (over 3 years!), reduced the amount of “stuff” coming into my home, and most importantly, hired a cleaning woman. I still have lot of work to do on this project, but I’m on the right path.
I decided that I liked having a word or phrase or motto to guide my year. So for the Year of Erin I have decided on SPARKLE. Kind of cheesy, but it fits exactly with what I want to do. I want my home to sparkle. I want my smile to sparkle. I want Korky to sparkle (and smell a little better!). I want my life to sparkle. I WANT TO SPARKLE!
