I hope everyone is having a great Friday so far. It is an absolutely gorgeous day and I have been trying to spend as much time outside as possible. Shh..... I know I talk way to much about the weather but it has been quite DRY (no rain) and Sunny this week which is such a treat for us Pacific NW'er's. I don't even bother to look at the weather forecast anymore and just try to live in the moment and today has been a pleasant surprise.
Now the subject that keeps popping into my mind, is Guilty Pleasures and I decided to share a few of mine with you. I would also love to hear about your guilty pleasures. Do share!
So one of my biggest guilty pleasures is that I absolutely, positively, LOVE cereal. I actually have weaned myself off it and because A) it comes in a box and B) I know too much. Anything that comes out of an extruder despite have claims of being Whole Grain or having 100% of my Daily Vitamins and Minerals is probably not the smartest choice.
BUT, eating cereal with milk, brings me back to my childhood and is true comfort food to me. When I was little I loved Raisin Bran, Rice Chex and Frosted Flakes. During college I loved Quaker Oatmeal Squares (and still do). I ate countless bowls of Rice Chex when I was pregnant with Emmet and I had moved on to Kashi Go Lean Cereal when I was pregnant with Zoe. Thus, I am so happy that I have kids because I can sneak a bowl of cereal from time to time when I need my fix.
Today, I just flat out bought a box of cereal for myself. 2013 is the year of no guilt for me and if I want to cereal, then damn it, I am going to have cereal!
I loved Kashi Go Lean Crunch for many years and was a bit dismayed when I found out the Kashi brand was one of the big offenders of using GMO's in their cereals. Even with this knowledge, I would walk past the cereal aisle with a bit of longing.
So, today when I was at Whole Foods I noticed that they make a knock-off version of Kashi Go Lean Crunch called 365 Everyday Protein & Fiber Crunch. I decided to take a leap of faith and buy the cereal to be enjoyed in moderation.
I figured that I often consume 200 calories worth of indulgent treats everyday (I am found of my chocolate chip/peanut butter chip combo) and that if I wanted to indulge in a comforting bowl of cereal and milk then by all means I should! A little munch fest is planned for later this evening: ) Just one bowl.
My other guilty pleasure is what I just mentioned- Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate Chips + Sunspire Peanut Butter Chips. Oh boy, do I love this little treat.
