I love strawberries at this time of the year and you won’t catch me eating them at any other time in the year.
I don’t even like strawberry jam and I’m not a fan of frozen strawberries because I usually find them tasteless, but fresh strawberries that are seasonal are superb.
There are really three ways that I like eating my strawberries:
1) Strawberries and fresh whipped cream or crème fraîche
2) Fresh strawberries as part of a fruit plate
3) Marinated strawberry (with sugar and sometime Grand Marnier) served on butter toast (this is a French recipe which I can never get enough of eating). Yes, you read that correctly I did say buttered toast. I do eat butter and I quite like it on warm toast … it’s all about moderation.
I can tell you that after reading the Eating Well feature on healthy strawberry recipes, I realized that I was missing the boat and I need to expand my repertoire of strawberry-based recipes pronto.
Eating Well has a nice selection of savory and sweet strawberry recipes that are so perfect for the season. I hope my selection of favourites will inspire you to run to your grocery store or local farmers’ market in search of strawberries.
Take a look at these delicious strawberry recipes:
Eating Well’s sweet healthy strawberry recipes:
Strawberry-Rhubarb Bread Pudding: This looks more like a crumble than a bread pudding, but since I quite like the combo of strawberries and rhubarb, I’m happy to try it.
Strawberry-Honey Dressing: This salad dressing will surely add some excitement to your summer salads. Perhaps, this might be the recipe to convince you to start making your own dressings instead of buying them from the grocery store.
Strawberry, Melon & Avocado Salad: Here’s a combination I would never (EVER) thought of putting together. I’ll be honest, I’ve not tried it yet, but given the number of positive feedback from other readers, I might just give it a try.
