Great Britain's Popular TV Chef Jamie Oliver Condemns Parents for "Crime" of Packing Junk Food Lunches for their Kids

Posted Dec 18 2008 8:12pm

Famous TV chef Jamie Oliver, host of "Jamie's School Dinners" blasted parents for feeding their kids "junk," even labeling some kids' diets as a "crime," the Independent reported.

In fact, he railed against 70 percent cent of packed lunches given to schoolchildren, calling them "disgraceful" and saying that they should be banned.

"I have seen kids of the ages of four or five, the same age as mine, open their lunchbox and inside is a cold, half-eaten McDonald's, multiple packets of crisps and a can of Red Bull. We laugh and then want to cry," Oliver said, speaking after a preview screeening of his new program, according to The Independent.

"I have no doubts that these parents love their children," he said, noting that "if a teacher told a parent that their child tended to get very tired at the end of the day, it was wrong to think the solution was `a can of Red Bull because it gives you wings - you might as well give them a line of coke.'"

Oliver really came down hard on parents in the program. He said:

"I've spent two years being PC about parents, now is the time to say, 'If you're giving your young children fizzy drinks you're an arsehole, you're a tosser. If you give them bags of crisps, you're an idiot. If you aren't cooking them a hot meal, sort it out.' If they truly care they've got to take control."

I absolutely love this junk-food-blasting chef Jamie. In fact, I hope to meet him real soon -- perhaps when my book SUGAR SHOCK! bookstores over in the U.K. -- if not before then.

He is so cool! He's even doing podcasts, as announced in April.

Yoo hoo, hip, health-conscious American celebrities, where are you? Don't endorse soda! Show some compassion and heart and push veggies, fruits, and other healthy treats.

Ah, we so very desperately need a Jamie Oliver over here in the U.S., as I stated almost a year ago.
