Graduation Eve

Posted Jan 17 2009 1:46am

Hi guys!

Well, my appointment was outstanding today! I really really liked Anisha and she was veryyy qualified (she had 7 different diplomas from acupuncture/ayurveda schools around the world hanging in her office!). When I first got there, we talked for 30 minutes in her office about my symptoms and my lifestyle and then she took me back to a treatment room and did 30 minutes of acupressure on me. Earlier I meant acupressure today not acupuncture! She does acupuncture as well, obviously, but there was a special going on for a half off 30 minute acupressure session so that’s what I did today. I’ve done acupuncture in the past and love it. Hopefully some day soon I can schedule an appointment!

Anyways, getting back to my appointment, she took my pulse on both wrists and was sort of intrigued to find out that I was about equally strong in both Vata and Pitta constitutions. She said I had a very strong predominant Vata force and it was actually pushing Pitta out more, which would lead to migraines and skin rashes. The whole session was incredibly educating and interesting and it felt sooooo good to have someone massage all the pressure points on my face and neck with jasmine oil. I made another appointment for Tuesday afternoon to have an Ayurvedic “educational session” on diet and nutrition, during which she will talk about proper eating habits, selecting the right foods, incompatible food combos and some recipes…..all based on my particular imbalances. Her theory is that you need to go and have done a set number of visits first (both acupuncture and ayurvedic), get on the right herbs and diet and then when you are stabilized, balanced and symptom-free, visit only once a season (every 4 months or so).

Oo! And I also bought some oil (she recommended Sunflower Oil for me personally and its different for everyone) to start doing those daily oil massages with as well as special ayurvedic oil to rub on the soles of my feet before bed that is supposed to induce sleep.

I was starving after my visit so I stopped at the Publix around the corner and bought a yogurt to snack on during the car ride home:

And then for dinner, I actually ended up going with my mom and aunt to Ceviche instead of out with Ryan because, well, Ceviche is my favorite restaurant in Tampa and also because I really didn’t want to go to a late dinner party/business thingy tonight and then wake up so early tomorrow.

Once there, us three girls split a pitcher of sangria aka nectar of the gods ;) Here’s a picture of my mom and aunt enjoying their glasses:

I had probably a little over a glass.  They were big glasses though! And then we split a number of different tapas.

To start, the babaganoush and sizzling shrimp in olive oil, peppers and garlic:

Then the ceviche a la casa, the crabcake and the eggplant stuffed with melted manchego cheese:

My mom ordered the homemade potato chips with blue cheese but I’m not a big potato chip fan and only ate about three—-

And then, lastly, we ordered another ceviche a la casa because I was still hungry. Haha. I’m actually still hungry right now! Weird, right?! The food was all pretty rich but was in such small portions that I really don’t even think I ate that much of it. Especially when fighting over it with the two other women in my family. ;) I’m at Ryan’s now though and there’s no good dessert food here so I might just have a cup of tea.

Well, I’m about to take a bubble bath, do my first “oil treatment” and then get in bed and read. Ryan probably won’t be home until midnight from the party so I have the place to myself. I won’t be posting tomorrow until AFTER graduation because we have to leave around 6:30 in the morning and its just going to be crazy trying to get everything and get going (aka get Ryan going that early). I’m sure we will eat lunch in Orlando and then tomorrow night is my “party”—my mom is making a big dinner for me, my dad, my aunt, my brother, Ryan and Margaret (my mom’s best friend).

See you tomorrow! After I’m all gradu-a-ated! ;)
