Gout is caused by excess uric acid in the blood, which could be brought on by too many protein rich foods in the diet. Alcohol intake also can cause acute attacks of gout.  When someone has gout it is best to avoid diuretic foods, coffee, sodas, tea with caffeine, and alcohol.   However, herbal tea without caffeine should be fine, and may actually be beneficial.  Some cleansing herbal teas, like Calli Tea, will help detoxify the body, specifically the liver and kidneys, which may help eliminate excess uric acid.
