Whenever I’m traveling for business I like to treat myself to a magazine or two to enjoy on the plane. Sometimes it’s some trashy celebrity gossip magazine that I’d never be caught dead with otherwise, but most likely it’s something of the Epicurean persuasion. Among the available titles Gourmet has always been my favorite. I love the articles and often bookmark the recipes. Countless memorable meals have come from between those pages. I’ve also been a huge admirer or Ruth Reichl, enjoying her many books, which gave me yet another reason to pick it up over the others. Because of all this I was sad to read in the NY Times today that Gourmet will be closing. It’s surprising to think that I’ll no longer see it staring back at me from the airport newsstand anymore.
What about you, are you sad to see Gourmet go or is it just another casuality in a bad economy?
