Do you remember when you were a child asking permission to do certain things? Perhaps it was going out to play or visiting a neighbor or something bigger as sports or music lessons. Back then it was natural to ask permission and wait for a response. Whether it was positive or negative you simply handled the situation as best you could. So my question to you today is: Are you giving yourself permission?
No permission is needed from anyone else but yourself.
Too often many will fall back to their childhood years or perhaps later in life when permission was not granted for whatever the reason. This un-granted permission kept you from moving forward in your life. Perhaps your goal was to become a super-star athlete or movie star or even the president of the United States. Whatever the goal it was halted by not those who did not grant you permission but yourself. Now, read that last sentence again. Gone are the days of asking permission from your parents or other authority figure; it’s time to give yourself permission.
Giving yourself permission will certainly erase all the negative feelings and thoughts that perhaps have remained since you were younger. Who cares if you won’t be a super-star athlete, noble peace prize winner or become one that breaks the sound barrier? The fact is that you will have tried and that’s much better than making excuses.
The time is now to step out and do something you’ve only dreamed of doing.
You are a grown-up now and simply don’t need permission or approval from your elders. Now you are in a position to make those decisions yourself, so what will you do?
Here are some tips to get you started:
Write down your life goals – don’t worry about how ridiculous they may sound, simply write them down
Review the goals and laugh about the truly unrealistic ones and focus on the ones that are attainable
Choose one of the realistic goals set a date on your calendar
Do one thing each day that will bring you closer to achieving that goal
Most importantly, don’t look for others for permission
One of my favorite quotes is: ‘Don’t wait for tomorrow to do something you can do today‘. Those words have kept me going for many years and my hope is that they will do the same for you. It’s time to let go of the restraints that you have placed on yourself and give yourself permission to enjoy each and every day. Don’t focus on the ‘what if’s’ instead choose one thing that you’ve always wanted to do and do it!
Remember you don’t need anyone’s permission…it’s all up to you now!
