Fruit or Fruit Juice...which is best?

Posted by Dr. Eben Davis Doctor of Chiropracty

Nri00971 There is a lot of confusion over whether or not fruit juice is as good as the fruit. After all...you just take the fruit, throw it in a blender or a juicer, and drink it down. What's the difference?

Well...there's a big difference. Fruit in it's natural state is loaded with fiber. Fiber is the non-digestible part of a plant that binds all the sugar molecules together...so that when you eat a piece of fruit...the sugar is released slowly into your system vs. all at once like a coke or candy bar...which have no fiber.

When you eat whole fruit you do not jolt the bloodstream with big sugar loads...which trigger insulin production spikes  (cause fat storage) that can lead to obesity and diseases like diabetes

There is a vast difference between nutrients what a whole fruit offers and what juice provides you with. Fruits are healthier than fruit juice. To how fruits juice lose their nutrients in the entire process see http://www.medimanage.com/my-diet/articles/fruit-juices-are-only-half-good.aspx
