I know for nuts, such as almonds, it's commonly suggested to eat one handful a day, about 16 to 20. I literally count them out, and just stick with that amount.

Does anyone have a problem with fruit/nuts and portion control?
I eat a lot of fruit (fresh/dried/freeze-dried) and nuts/nut butters thinking they are healthy but the calories really add up.
Does anyone have suggestions about help with portion control?
