![]() Oh how often I hear these words..."I can't eat THAT because it gives me GAS!!" That comment of course referring to eating healthy nutritious foods like broccoli, cabbage, beans, spinach, and many other greens. And while I agree that these foods are typically known for being gaseous, let me suggest that there is a way that you can avoid the intestinal upset of gas and flatulence from these extremely healthy foods... Before I began to change my diet from one that contained mostly processed "food" products and lots of sticky, white flour, I complained of the same distress when I consumed anything fibrous or any cruciferous veggie (like broccoli and such). However, fortunate for me, I didn't just change my diet, but I "cleaned house" (my gut) in conjunction with introducing the new, more nutritious and fibrous foods. You've got to remember that your plumbing (equivalent to your intestines and colon) have most likely been piling up toxins along their walls since you were a wee child. It's not intentional, but a naturally occuring thing that happens when we ingest the STANDARD AMERICAN DIET (SAD). And the statistic is that the average American has 7-25 lbs. of excess fecal matter hanging out in there. This "fecal matter" is waste from foods that never got eliminated. Why?...Because our SAD is poor in live, raw food and low in fiber. And the waste that can't come out (usually because it's too sticky) just sticks to the linings of our colon like tar and the toxins in the waste begin to enter the bloodstream. So, when we DO ingest fiber or a cruciferous veggie like cabbage or greens, we get TOXIC Gas. That nasty, old waste smells HORRIBLE! Our systems aren't used to that much stimulation and we get gas cramps, etc. Therefore, we just continually stay away from those "irritating" healthy foods...and ingest more sticky gunk and we get heavier, more constipated, more sick and more tired! But, our bodies are MADE to run on live, whole foods. Consequently, if we clean our "plumbing" we could then put in those foods and not have upsetting results. Next post...I will talk a bit more about getting it all cleaned out. Stop by for more! Merry K. |
