The recipes in this book are interesting and flavorful, but they are calorie ridden with pasta, and other calorie high foods. My husband and I did not lose weight, we gained. I would not recommend this diet for anyone.
2 Stars Strange concoction of ingredients
Over my many years as top cook and bottle washer, I had to cook many meals for a family of six, but I have never seen a recipe where I couldn’t find the ingredients. I have had this cookbook for awhile now and still unable to find some of the important ingredients.
5 Stars Great Book!
The Flat Belly Diet is a really simple diet and I love the food options. I’ve made a couple of the recipes (have only had it a week) and they are Yummy!! The cookbook doesn’t have as many pictures as I would like but don’t let that stop you from getting this cookbook. It has all the calories & fat, etc. listed for each recipe which makes it easy to keep a food journal. And wait until you see the dessert selections! The whole idea is to eat good whole foods & to get that processed food (YUCK) out of your diet.
The beginning of the cookbook goes over the basics of the Flat Belly Diet and has some very helpful advice. Exercise is not a must but STRONGLY recommended.
I also recommend the Biggest Loser’s Family Cookbook.

This book was sold very cheaply because it was an early version. If you buy the latest, which I did in paperback, you will get a more complete and easier plan to follow. I love this diet. I immediately lost 3.5 pounds in the first four days but I was not overweight to begin with. I just happened to be putting on some fat in the abdomen area. The diet did exactly what I was hoping. I have lost almost five pounds just following it for a month. As I said, I was not over weight to begin. Just wanted to lose that belly thickness that I was developing and could not seem to get rid of in the gym.
4 Stars This not unusual food, this is not a hard shopping list
I read the reviews on this book, and some people think the shopping list is expensive or the items hard to find. I took my Flat Belly Diet book with me to the grocery store today.. opened to the Sassy Water & the Shopping list.
I looked down the shopping list & there is nothing strange, or unusual on the shopping list. Its all normal, natural, real food & spices. I didn’t have a problem finding anything on the shopping list. And it was not so expensive that I couldn’t afford anything on the list. And I am not wealthy or rich. I am just the back bone of this country: Middle Class.
I guess if you want to buy over-processed food, food that is all white & has no nutrition, you can probably afford to eat less expensively. White flour is on the grocery shelf in over abundance. But it has no real nutrients in it. You can buy white potatoes, white sugar, white rice, white bread, its cheap, but there is no real food or nutrition in it.
And think about what you are getting in all those boxes of processed food. Someone else prepared it for you so you didn’t have to do the work. Someone else put the frozen food in the box. So you don’t know what’s really in any of it. Have you read a label lately? Do you even know what all those chemicals & numbers are? If you read what is in a loaf of bread.. and then you go read a recipe if you made your own bread, what in the world is all that junk they put in a loaf of bread?
When you buy cheap processed food, you get what you pay for. Junk. And Sick.
My only exception to this book is the cereals the authors want you to eat.
I don’t get that. If they know good eating at all, what are they doing telling us to eat cereal for breakfast? Anything except real steel cut oats, & oak bran, wheat germ, sprouted breads, is just empty carbs.

A reviewer wants to know when the last time I used Marjoram or Cardamom?
Or Like the shopping list is strange or hard to find?
The shopping list included in these Fat Belly Diet books is not unusual or difficult. It might be unusual or difficult for some people out there because our American diet is so filled with junk and fast food we don’t know what good food is.
The last time I used Marjoram? was on an elk steak my husband brought home after the elk hunt.
Cardamom is a common spice used in Swedish/Scandanavian cooking.
These are not unusual spices.
I think it is just that every day fast foods that people are so used to eating do not use or contain real food or real spices. So we don’t know what to do with them when .. this book says Marjoram or Cardamom.. or ginger root.
The American Food industry, the fast foods restaurants, the guys that are making processed foods, stocking the shelves in the grocery stores are selling you junk that causes obesity, insulin resistance & diabetes, heart disease, strokes… the list goes on. Because its.. FAST & its CHEAP.
The American Diet is killing us. We are fat because we eat so much of their processed junk they call food.
Everything in the food we eat is loaded with sugar, salt, fructose, MSG, the stuff that is killing us.
When is the last time you read a food label?
If it has MSG.. a flavor enhancer, you will see it is in everything out there from soups to chips. It makes food taste good, but it will fry your brain & your kids brains in the meantime.
Fructose, High Fuctose is still sugar & but your body doesn’t know what to do with fructose, so you stay hungry & you keep eating it & you gain a lot of weight. That is why we are so obese. The food industry has figured out ways to use fructose to fool us into thinking its not so bad as sugar.
Well guess what? Its so bad that I have gone back to using a teaspoon of real old fashioned sugar instead of all that other sugary stuff out there.
Do you know that Equal is Aspartame.. a brain killer, and Splenda is actually made with Clorox and if you sprayed it on the weeds in your yard they would die?
Its a weed killer and we are told to sweeten our food with it.
We are overweight and obese because we eat sugar, white flour, white potatoes, white processed rice.. white bread, crackers, cookies, chips, beer! there is nothing redeeming in beer.
I like a beer now and then. Nothing tastes better on a really hot afternoon than a really icy cold beer,. but there is nothing good for you in it.
I don’t know how bad this Men’s Fat Belly Diet book is because I am not a guy.
But I do have the Flat Belly diet book.. and I have a Dr. Ray Strands book Releasing Fat / Healthy for Life, Preventing Diabetes. And Dr. Strand has devoted his life, and web site to getting people to stop killing themselves with the junky American Diet. Carbs. Dr. Atkins wasn’t so wrong after all.
This Flat Belly Diet book is written by nutritionists for Prevention Magazine.
And while I do not agree with their diet of having cereal for breakfast
( Dr. Strand says its still sugar & leads to insulin resistance, if not all out diabetes)
but if you can get around the white food stuff.. and eat REAL FOOD with REAL Spices.. or go pick up an old old cookbook like Betty Crocker from 1950.. or earlier, you will see Americans used to eat real food, and they didn’t have this gross obesity that is sweeping over our country today.
Its the food industry. They are killing us with processed foods.
I am a mom.. just a mom. And what I feed my husband, and what I feed my daughter matters. I care. No High Fructose, No MSG ever comes into this house.
And if I can stop it, no white bread, no white flour, white rice, white potatoes, processed food.. it all converts to.. SUGAR. And it will kill you.
Eat real food. From the organic cow, the organic chicken, from the garden.
Even Tyson and their crappy chickens, what they do to there chickens.. you’ll never want to eat their chicken again. Read the Bird Flu Hoax by Dr. Mercola.. there is no bird flu. They made it up so they could get all of the chicken market for themselves. How they mass produce & grow their chickens is criminal.
Just do your homework. Things are not what they seem to be. Even our food is tainted. And these Flat Belly Diet books are not bad books. Different from what you are used to, but not bad, not hard, not difficult.
