Sometimes it can be difficult to maintain healthy eating habits when everyone else is headed to the burrito shack. However, you are doing yourself a world of good when you pack your own lunch. Consider these:
1.) Control over nutrition: When you brown bag it, you know exactly what you're getting because you have access to the food labels at home.
2.) Portion Control: You don't have to worry you'll be tempted by the Grande Platter when you've made your meal ahead of time.
3.) Time Saved: Use the time you would have stood in line to take a walk around the block.
4.) Money: It almost goes without saying that packing lunch yourself costs less than eating out.
5.) Leave Work Early: Unless your boss is a clock watcher, there's a good chance that by occasionally working through lunch you may be able to get out of the office early. Maybe to say... exercise?
...to pack a brown bag lunch! A couple months ago, I got some wonderful tips from Wellsphere members on stuff to pack for lunch so you don't get bored with the same ol' sandwich or salad.
Personally, I also love the fact that I am making extra time for myself in the morning or the night before to ensure that I'm healthy and taken care of. It makes me feel like my own mother or something!
Helen Gurley Brown always said if you aren't taking bag lunches at least 3 times a week, you are wasting money, calories and time.
This, of course, is true. But I work for myself! I do eat lunch at home. But when I am out, I like to treat myself! I like someone taking my order, cleaning the dishes, making the meal just so. I do try to get sashimi or something healthy when I do eat out...it's a competitive world out there! And, while restaurant portions are big, they do not compare to my fridge.
