"Women sit or move to and fro, some old, some young, The young are beautiful, but the old are more beautiful than the young."
As much as I love inspiring people for the sake of health and wellness, it is still a thrill when I am inspired, as often happens when I run across those who defy time, bursting with boundless youthful energy, and those who are dedicated to fitness, no matter what their age.
Enter Ernestene Sheperd, who is listed in the Guniness Book of Word Records as the oldest professional bodybuilder in the world, at age 75 in 2012.
Talk notes people, Shepherd didn't start exercising until her mid-50s and didn't enter her first bodybuilding competition until she was 71-years-old. At 74, she was awarded the Guinness record as the oldest female bodybuilder for the 2012 book of world records.
Although she began her fitness transformation out of grief over the untimely death of her sister from a brain aneurysm, she has used her later-life transformation to bring a health and wellness message to her community.
But she wasn't always the ripped woman we see today. Shepherd took control of her body more than 20 years ago after experiencing a situation many women can relate to. "I was getting ready for a picnic with my sister Mildred, and we were trying on swimsuits," "And we were not happy. So we did something about it."
Since she's made that decision, there doesn't seem to be anything holding her back. "I plan to keep doing bodybuilding shows," the World Record holder said. "There's no reason you can't be 80, and strutting your stuff."
I ain't mad at 'ya lady, if you're gonna strut it, I'm gonna blog it
I have to post my theme song for my "Fountain of Youth" blog section, to my girl Ernestine. The song is my boy Michael Frank, and is of course called "The Fountain of Youth".
That's where I get that line "She lives around the corner from The Fountain of Youth".
This time, the song's dedicated to Ernestine Sheperd, Keep it real lady , keep it real!!!!
