Drinking Soft Drinks Can Kill Cellular Mitochondria

Posted by Rebecca S.

British molecular biologist, Peter Piper (yes, that's his real name), of Sheffield University has announced his research findings that a common preservative used soft drinks switches off vital parts of DNA, which leads to serious damage to cells, particularly in children, but also has an aging effect in adults. "These chemicals have the ability to cause severe damage to DNA in the mitochondria to the point that they totally inactivate it, they knock it out altogether," said Piper. "The mitochondria consumes the oxygen to give you energy and if you damage it then the cell starts to malfunction very seriously."
