The press is really getting the word out that drinking soda is bad for teeth enamel. In fact, if you are going to drink soda, you are urged to drink it through a straw. Furthermore, Dr. David Bartlett states in Prepared Foods magazine that you should even wait at LEAST 20 minutes after drinking soda (or other acidic foods) before brushing your teeth, to give weakened enamel the chance to recover. This is the opposite of what my dentist says, who believes in brushing after meals.
My dentist says that the longer harmful foods are on your teeth or in the gums, the better chance it has to rot them and cause infection. He’s a big believer in flossing after all meals and in Listerine.
