Hi,

I've found that eating in a diabetic-concious way is good for high-protein, low-carb diets, because it focuses just on that (and good carbs too).  These cookbooks are great for that, both by Robyn Webb, a registered Dietician and a nutrition counselor: Diabetic Meals in 30 Minutes - or Less! and Eat to Beat Diabetes.  Of course, ALWAYS double-check with your doctor first!

Hi,

I've found that eating in a diabetic-concious way is good for high-protein, low-carb siets, because it focuses just on that (and good carbs too).  These cookbooks are great for that, both by Robyn Webb, a registered Dietician and a nutrition counselor: Diabetic Meals in 30 Minutes - or Less! and Eat to Beat Diabetes.  Of course, ALWAYS double-check with your doctor first!

Generally speaking, low carb, high protein diets involve more meat and fewer simple carbs from things like breads, pastas, and white rice.  There are also some fruits and vegetables that are considered be too high in carbs, but I say it’s not about the quantity of carbs and protein as much as it is about the quality.

There are many vegans who get plenty of protein from plants, nuts, and grains.  Star NFL running back, Tony Gonzales is one of them.  They may consume a few fruits that are higher in carbs, but complex carbs from whole foods last longer and are more useful to the body.

You may also want to think about concentrated whole foods that deliver perfectly balanced nutrition for low carb diets.
Hi Bree, I agree with Amy on her foodlist, great resource.  I would add to use the high-fat, high-cholesterol items (eggs, cream, red meat) in moderation.  There are plenty of HPLC diets around.  If you're new to the concept, you might consider sticking to a plan such as the South Beach diet for example.  Be well...

Hi Breeangel86! Below is a link to an article I wrote giving a list of low-carb foods. What you eat will really depend on your plan, but most of these fit into a majority of low-carb plans.
