“Sugar and Spice Pastry” by Petr Kratochvil
What is the one thing you can do TODAY to have more energy, get beautiful skin, and prevent disease? This is so important to your overall health, I don’t want you to miss it.
It’s time to say bye-bye to sugar.
Your love affair with sugar is making you sick. It zaps your energy and weakens your immune system.
So, let’s have a heart-to-heart about the sweet stuff.
First, I want you to do a little thinking. Don’t worry. It won’t be too hard! Think about your last encounter with a sugary treat. Maybe it was a Snickers bar. Maybe a Krispy Kreme donut. Frosted Flakes or Lucky Charms? Or, maybe it was a double scoop of Baskin-Robbins Chocolate Chip ice cream. Whatever it was, think about it. Why did you decide to grab that sugary treat? Was it just that it was there? Were you truly hungry? Or, maybe you were sleepy and needed a pick-me-up? Now, think about how you felt as you were consuming it. Happy? Guilty? Sad? And, how about a 30-minutes to an hour later? Did you experience the crash that typically comes along with sugar consumption? Did you feel bloated, lethargic, headache-y?
What you eat goes into your tummy and is then absorbed into your blood. The old saying is true. You ARE what you eat. If you eat a bunch of sugary junk, there is no nutrition to feed your cells. No nutrition leaves your cells starving and malnourished. Your body becomes acidic and inflamed. Your immune system is weakened. Chronic illness and disease lurk around the corner, ready to invade. Not good for a healthy life!
The average American consumes more than 100 pounds of sugar and sweeteners per year. And, Americans only consume about 8 pounds of broccoli per year! When we are talking about kicking the sugar cravings, we are talking about refined white sugar, and those things that turn into sugar immediately after entering your body (typically white flour products, packaged foods, breads, white pastas, chips, bagels). Refined table sugar lacks vitamins, minerals, and fiber, and requires extra effort for your body to digest. The body must deplete its own store of minerals and enzymes to absorb the refined sugar properly. Therefore, not only does sugar not provide any nutrition, it actually depletes the body’s minerals and enzymes. It enters into the blood stream quickly and wreaks havoc on blood sugar levels.
Sugar qualifies as an addictive substance because eating even a small amount creates a desire for more. And, suddenly quitting causes withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, mood swings, cravings, and fatigue. Sounds like a drug, huh?! And, the more sugar you eat, the more sugar you want. It’s an endless, vicious cycle.
Giving sugar the boot is a simple concept, but difficult to implement for most Americans who are waist-deep in the Standard American Diet. Ending unhealthy behavior and replacing it with healthy behavior is much easier to do with friends. In my She Shines Membership Group, we are doing Sugar-Free October, holding each other accountable, encouraging each other, sharing recipes, and more. If you KNOW you need to get the sugar out of your diet, come join us.
Dr. Wayne Dyer, PhD. says, “If you’ve been addicted to a harmful substance, to overeating, or even to being a doormat, listen to the voice within that begs you to be big rather than small, and take one corrective step.”
Take that step today. You will feel better, look better, and BE better. Even if you just eliminate those high-sugar sodas, that’s a HUGE step in the right direction. You can do this. You must do this for your health and your legacy.
