Do Alkaline Foods and pH Balance Impact Health?

The concept that pH balance and alkaline foods influence health is a relatively new idea, but experts in the fields of medicine and science are finding that it can be a vital component in battling many different diseases. The human body is actually intended to run in a slightly alkaline state.

Unfortunately, a large selection of the foods and drinks in the Standard American Diet (SAD) are acid forming. Look at all the caffeine, excess animal protein, and processed foods that people consume regularly. Each of these has an effect on pH balance in the body, causing it to lean to the acid side of the scale. Alkaline foods and drinks help the body manage a sound pH balance.

When acids foods are eaten in excess, the systems of the body tend to get overtaxed from constantly being bombarded with acid forming properties. On the other hand, when a greater selection of alkaline foods are part of the diet, the body has an easier job of alkalizing the blood, thus maintaining a proper pH balance.

There are a plethora of other reasons to prevent the buildup of an acidic environment within the body. One of the most important is that unwelcome organisms such as candida, yeast and other unhealthy bacteria grow much more easily when pH balance leans to the acid side too often. Cells are at their healthiest when in an alkaline state. When the diet is short on alkaline foods or alkaline drinks, cells struggle to survive, and many of them deteriorate.

Consuming alkaline foods rather than acid foods is a healthy step toward restoring correct pH balance in the body. In addition to the high quality nutrients acquired from these healthy choices, cell function and oxygenation are improved while creating a less hospitable environment for bacteria and organisms that jeopardize overall health.
