In my quest for adding more variety and new styles to my workouts (as well as getting great ideas for my own personal training sessions!), I started the Designer Whey’s Summer ShapeUP challenge. The main landing page for the challenge is on the Designer Whey Facebook page and the workouts began on Monday and they go for 8 weeks. The workout program features new workouts each day designed and led by 5 top trainers: Steve Pfister (Monday-Lower Body), Blake Kassel (Tuesday-Upper Body), Mike Van Arsdale (Wednesday-Core & Cardio), Andrea Metcalf (Thursday-Yoga), and Alfonso Moretti (Friday-Total Body). These trainers bring together a variety of techniques for a well-rounded workout experience. If you want to get a great workout with variety and can’t afford a gym membership, this is a perfect way to shake up your routine. The exercises include bands, weights, body weight, MMA-style circuits, yoga and hit all major muscle groups and all fitness disciplines (muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, cardio, and recovery). Most of the exercises and workouts can be modified and done just about anywhere, and each workout video comes with a PDF print-out so you can take the workout with you to the gym or the park. Another perk is that when you watch the videos on Facebook and interact with the online community, you are entered to win cool prizes; how awesome is that!
I have been struggling with my energy levels all summer because of seasonal allergies, but I decided to challenge myself anyway. I did miss the first day (leg day with Steve Pfister), but have done the last 2 days. Today is yoga day with Andrea Metcalf, which will be nice. Yesterday I did the complete core workout with Coach Van Arsdale and then the Blogilates Bikini Blast Booty workout (my favorite booty workout!) and What Makes You Bootyful . Yesterday’s workout was awesome, but I am a bit sore, so yoga after my Zumba class today will be nice I can’t guarantee that I will complete every workout in the challenge, but I can sure try! Even if you don’t want to do the whole challenge, you can try out a few of the workouts and trainers for a change of pace.
