A new study suggests that the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH Diet), or a similar diet, can be beneficial not only for those trying to manage high blood pressure, but also for people who don't have high blood pressure. The diet, which focuses on the consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat milk and plant-based protein (favored over meat), could help prevent heart attack and stroke.
In the study, women who followed a diet similar to the DASH Diet were 24 percent less likely to have a heart attack and 18 percent less likely to have a stroke than women "with more typical American diets," according to the article.
