Lately I’ve been in the mood for really well made cocktails. Not my usual skinny margarita or vodka club soda, but something with lots of flavor, not too sweet, balanced, and always refreshing. For some reasons it’s been really hard to find a well made cocktail-you have to go to the right places. I’m a sucker for infused vodka’s and I like anything citrusy or clean tasting. Here’s a few I’ve been raving about lately…
Moscow Mule in a copper mug. A combination of vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice. One of my favorite combinations. And for me, the copper mug makes the drink.
Clear Conscience from at Angele in Napa: Muddled Cucumber, Ginger, Orange and Vodka over ice with Ginger Ale
A spicy bloody mary can fix almost any rough morning. This one is from Bread Winners in Dallas, TX.
Basil Beauty at Press:No. 209 Gin shaken with muddled Fresh Basil, Fresh Lime Juice, Splash of Cane Syrup. Served Up
Some Like It Hot at Press:Thai Chile Infused Tequila, Muddled Cilantro, Lemon & Lime. Shaken & Served on the Rocks
The cilantro margarita from Neyla is not only outstanding, but I imagine it is pretty healthy as it is mainly pureed cilantro and lime juice.
Cucumber Collins at Healdsburg Bar & Grill: Effen Cuccumber Vodka, fresh lime juice, a touch of jalepeno, lightly sweetened & topped with soda. I loved the clean taste from the cucumber with the touch of heat from the jalopeno.
Delicious mezcal and tequila cocktails at the Mexican Embassy dinner last year were a fun treat to try. I’m not a huge fan of the smoky taste of Mezcal, but I do love tequila!
Oyamel makes a great skinny margarita with a salt foam top. Innovative and yummy!
And then there are just so many others…
And sometimes you just have to teach the bartender to make what you want.
