Christy - Thanksgiving game plan

Posted Nov 18 2009 10:03pm

This morning, I helped out a friend with the little girl she nannies and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to try out one of the bars that Fruition sent us. I liked the simplicity of the ingredients (always a plus with bars like these). It has black and white chia seeds in it too which is a great source of calcium and fiber. This is going to sound a little strange but it tasted like a cross between a fruit roll up and a healthy fig newton. The blueberry was a little sweet for me but my husband had one (peach) and loved it. I think that means that it goes in the category of healthy foods that taste good enough that you might not know they are healthy. That's always a plus!

On a different note, I have been prepping my clients for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday this week. The holidays bring a lot of stress around food. I like Thanksgiving foods just as much as the next person, but isn't it funny that the point of the holiday is to be with people you love and be thankful for the community and the blessings that we have in our lives. Don't you think we could do that with a normal sized meal? Do we have to get absurdly stuffed so that we are in food comas for most of the day/night?

Anyway...I think it is helpful to think of the day and come up with a game plan. A way of approaching the day and the challenges it might present so that you can enjoy yourself but not feel like it is out of control. This week, I have been helping clients develop their game plans and I was wondering, what are yours? Do you have a game plan for your holiday?

My game plan for Thanksgiving is to make sure to exercise in the morning, eat a healthy and sensible breakfast so I am not starving by the big meal, drink water throughout the day, and pick a few things that I want to eat (remembering that I can actually have this food anytime I want, I don't have to gorge on it right then).

How about you??
