Chocolate and Flavonoids

Posted by Nirmala N.

As we’ve discovered, some chocolates are not equal to others. Most people know by now that certain kinds of chocolate are packed with flavonoids, or antioxidants that fight cell-damaging free radicals. However, too much chocolate can cancel out the benefits. Dark chocolate is richest in antioxidants, so it’s good to opt for it over milk chocolate. Also, chocolate has both saturated and unsaturated fats, so it should always be consumed in tiny amounts. In addition, processed fat, needless to say, tends to be higher in fat and lower in flavonoids, so it’s a good idea to avoid candy bars that sport extras like peanuts or caramel.
