chocaholic?

Posted by Teresa J.

what is the one thing you won't give up, no matter how healthy your lifestyle might be otherwise? for me, it's chocolate. my dietician allows me one granola bar every day in hopes of satisfying my craving. they're lower in calories than the average chocolate bar, so it works out pretty well. i now talk myself out of stopping at the variety store for a chocolate bar when my son and i walk up to get the mail. as you can see, there are ways to satisfy your treat needs. do you totally indulge or do you have a way of compromising (as i do)? (not that i don't cheat though! especially on those i'm-going-to-work-out nights!)

Indulgence isn't a bad thing!. Although admittedly, over the years, giving up my food vices has become a lot easier. I guess that as an adult, I'm a lot more sensitive to the effects of unhealthy foods--that ranges from acne breakouts to a sense of feeling bloated, tired, etc. I don't particularly have a lot of sweet vices anymore, but the one thing it's hard for me to give up is those sugary chai latte drinks you get at places like Peet's or Starbucks. Soooo good! I usually save them for weekends, because that way, they feel more like a treat. During the week, I drink green tea. :)
Jelly Beans!. Just have to have a few here and there to satisfy my sweet tooth. I'm not obsessed or anything, but I have been to the Jelly Belly factory 3 times (in the last 2 years :).
Soft pretzels. Yep, like the kind you get at baseball and football games and other events. My boyfriend and I keep our freezer stocked. The kind that we buy don't seem too bad for you-I think they're less than 150 calories, and they have no fat. (Although I'm sure the carb level is far from perfect.) I will still fulfill my craving for one if it takes over every once in a while, but I'm actually starting a period of focusing on eating healthier and exercising more today--something I haven't done in the past month between vacations and extensive travel for work.
Ice cream. I would have to say ice cream. If it's not stocked in my freezer, I don't miss it, but I cannot avoid the ice cream isle when shopping. To help moderate my ice cream intake, I only allow myself one teaspoon a day. Often I skip out because I can talk myself out of it. I think the fact of having the ice cream in the freezer is a comfort that I can have it whenever I want it.
Go Raw. I am also a chocolate addict...and now I have found the answer to my problem! Raw Chocolate! Raw chocolate is extremely good for you...totally high in anti oxidents. I put mine in a blender with agave necter, sesamee seeds, organic peanut butter, and water. Blend it up, roll it into balls, put it in the fridge. You will never miss chocolate again and you can be guilt free. Type in raw chocolate into google and loads of great recipes and info will come up
Popcorn. I love popcorn. I try to air pop or do the low fat microwave kind most of the time. But every once in awhile I haul out a heavy pot and make it the way my grandpa used to. Yummy!
