Cherry Vanilla Smoothie + Cherry Chocolate Smoothie

Posted Nov 26 2011 12:00am

Good Evening and Happy Saturday!

I am on a bit of a Smoothie roll right now.  After having that delicious Warrior Smoothie at Prasad the other day, I have been craving smoothies.  So I woke up this morning and made the most delicious Cherry Vanilla Smoothie.  The key to this smoothie is frozen dark sweet cherries. They whip up into a sweet and creamy concoction that are not only beautiful but good for me as well. Cherries are packed with antioxidants that fight free radicals. Free radicals are believed to contribute to disease and accelerate aging.
We need to fight those free radicals as much as possible!

Cherry Vanilla Smoothie

1 cup So Delicious Unsweetened Coconut Milk
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
1/2 frozen banana
3/4 cup frozen dark sweet cherries

Combine the above ingredients into Vitamix (or blender) and blend until smooth and creamy.

Yummy!

I absolutely loved this smoothie!
Smoothies are a great way to start the day especially if you have had a few days of indulgence.  Smoothies nourish your body as well as detox your body.

We decided to go to the PSU Farmer's Market because it was a beautiful day and the market is  only going to be open for a few more weeks.  So you know, I had to get my favorite sandwich for lunch:

Tastebud Chickpea Pita Sandwich

If you are local and have not tried one of these yet, you must get to the Farmer's Market in the next two weeks and get one!  This is a must because Tastebud does not serve this at their restaurant and it makes me oh so sad because this is the best sandwich I have ever had.

The pita is stuffed with  Chickpea Stew Wheatberry Salad
Roasted Veggies
topped with Tahini Sauce Hot Sauce

Oh my gosh..... this is soo good!

The kids shared a bowl of
Zuppa Curry Soup

And a Nutella Crepe that was consumed before I could take a picture:)

Once we got home we took a nice long walk in Laurelhurst Park.  Then it was time to do some work.  Wow.  Raking leaves is hard work and we don't even have a big yard.  We worked outside for 2 hours and managed to clear the yard of leaves at least for today.

All that yard worked kicked my booty. The kids and I came inside and decided to whip up another batch of smoothies!

This time we made Cherry Chocolate Smoothies!

I made the same mix as before but added in some deep dark Valhrona Cocoa Powder.

 Cherry Chocolate Smoothie
1 cup So Delicious Unsweetened Coconut Milk
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder 2 tbsp Valhrona Cocoa Powder
1/2 frozen banana
3/4 cup frozen dark sweet cherries 1/2 tbsp Hemp Seeds
Combine the above ingredients into Vitamix (or blender) and blend until smooth and creamy.  Top with Hemp Seeds

The Cherry Chocolate Smoothie was Delish!  I loved the addition of Hemp Seeds.

I am almost out of my vanilla whey protein powder and am thinking about giving the following a try:
I am not a vegan but have heard great things about this Warrior Protein Powder but wanted to see if any of you have tried this before purchasing it myself.  My main question is "how does it taste?"

I am thinking of eliminating the protein supplement all together and just using nut butters and hemp seeds to add additional protein to the mix. Hmm.... food for foder.
Have a great evening!
