causes for increased heart rate

Posted by patman

I have been diagnosed with an unusually high heart rate.  They  (My doctors)are trying to find out why now.  An EKG was done and no significant data came out of that, I do have an ECHO scheduled for Monday and all sorts of blood work has been done and still no difinative answer.

Her are some basics on me:

Gender - Male

Age - 36

Height - 6ft

Weight - 216lb

Average heart rate overthe last 6 months - 97

Average blood pressure - just a little high - Sorry I didnt write that one down.

Im failry fit and pretty active and work out 2 - 3 times a week.

Some history - I was diagnosed with a DVT in my upper left arm (Brachial Vain) about 5 months ago.   I have since been experincing pain from my left armpit to my hand.  Sometimes it's a brief dull pain and sometims it lasts for hour and is more painful and throbing but still not a SHARP pain.  While an ultrasound was being done om my left arm to locate the DVT I was told that my Brachial Vain was pretty small for my age/size.

An EKG was done on me a bout 3 months ago and my doctor said that it looked like I may have some sort of a heart valve disease.  I was given another EKG and here are the results:

Vent. Rate - 65 bpm

PR interval -176ms

QRS Duration - 78 ms

QT/QTc - 378/393 ms

P-R-T axes - 64 60 1

I was told that this looked fine - I have no way of knowing otherwise so I believe it.

She also scheduled an ECHO for this coming Monday.  I come off of Coumadin in a few weeks and I'm kinda worried.

Here is my question:

Is it possible / likely that a valve is not opperating normally and that is what led to or contributed to the DVT?

Is it possible/ likely that if I go off coumadin that this will complicate the issue?

I know that this is not an wasy thing to answer but I'm not getting a whole lot of info from my docs.  Thanks...
