Candy That's Out of Sight Means Out of Mind & Mouth

Posted Dec 18 2008 8:14pm
Well, we knew this already, but now we have scientific proof to back it up. If you you hide candy from yourself, you have less of a chance of nibbling on those sweets.
I love it!
Researchers did a candy-jar study!

Their results: Out of sight is out of mind, as the Associated Press so aptly puts it.

Basically, here's what happened: secretaries who were given Hershey kisses for Secretary's Week ate more of them when the chocolate was kept in clear jars on their desks.

But, guess what, they ate less when the chocolate kisses were in opaque containers or placed a distance away.

"It should make us think about what we're doing" to undermine people's willpower," said Dr. Louis Aronne, director of the weight control program at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York and president of the Obesity Society, which held a conference where the research was presented.
