Okay, alcoholic or not, we've all had the urge to reach for the wine bottle after a long, grueling day at work. But believe it or not, you could be doing worse, because, according to scientists and the French, drinking red wine can actually be beneficial to your health.
A variety of studies from the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Boston's Tufts University has revealed that compounds in red wine may be beneficial to your health because of properties like resveratrol and other polyphenols: compounds that act as antioxidants and protect your cells from metabolic damage. Also, research has shown that red wine is great for heart health and can inhibit a protein that leads to the fatty build-up along artery walls.
Of course, take it from the French: a glass at dinner is fine, but it's alcohol, so drink moderately and be sure to eat your fruits and veggies (also packed with antioxidants). To your health!
