I’ll admit to not having tried this combination nearly enough as I should in the past, but now that I just learned of the finding of Professor John Erdman, I’ll surely have to think of more ways of combining broccoli and tomatoes in order to protect my body from cancer.

If Erdman’s findings are correct, I’ll have to start eating pasta primavera more often!

You see, Erdman and his group of researchers at the University of Illinois, found that combining tomatoes and broccoli provided more powerful cancer protection than just eating either vegetable on its own!

Erdman concludes that “different bioactive compounds in each food work on different anti-cancer pathways. It’s not that one nutrient doesn’t work, it’s that two or three work better”.

I’m not going to lie to you, I’m not about to sit in front on my kitchen table with a salad bowl filled with broccoli and tomatoes, because I’m not sure I’d enjoy it. Since food for me needs to be both healthy and tasty, I’d have to rely on a popular Italian dish to help me and that’s why pasta primavera is perfect!

Pasta primavera is a beautiful combination of pasta, tomatoes and vegetables. There are a number of variations, so you can always use a recipe that you have on hand and add broccoli to it. To increase the health factor, you can replace white pasta with whole wheat since now they come in every possible shape. You can also stick to white pasta, but make sure you overload more on the veggies than the pasta in your recipe.

If you don’t have a recipe, you can try this one from chef Giada De Laurentiis from The Food Channel … you’ll have to add broccoli to the recipe: Pasta Primavera

Pasta primavera is not the only answer. Here are a few other ways of combining broccoli and tomatoes:

* Broccoli and tomato risotto

* Topping your pizza broccoli and tomatoes

* Making a broccoli and tomato quiche

* Making quinoa with broccoli and tomato

* Cooking brown rice with broccoli and tomato

As you can see, when you take a step back, there are many ways of integrating broccoli and tomato in a healthy and tasty fashion that doesn’t include eating it as a salad.
