Quinoa isn't just a savory side dish. It's a versatile grain that tastes great with fresh fruit, dried fruit, or even nuts! When prepared like your favorite oatmeal, it becomes breakfast! If your kids like the nutty taste of quinoa, they will certainly enjoy this breakfast. If they don't yet care for quinoa, making sure there is enough fruit in your hot breakfast to get some fruit in every bite, just might make it appetizing enough to eat.
We start with a basic breakfast quinoa recipe. We cook it like oats:
Mix 2:1 milk or water to quinoa on the stove top.
Add cinnamon and vanilla.
Cook until all the liquid is absorbed.
Then, we add our favorite fruit to it. This can be different for each child. Our favorite toppings include:
Mandarin oranges, or cuties
Fresh or frozen berries
Pears or apples with extra cinnamon
Raisins, dates, and walnuts!
Dried Fruit and Nuts
This breakfast is perfect for my kids today! It's presidents day and we're heading out Snow shoeing!! They need energy and quinoa is a perfect mix of carbs and protein for sustained energy today!
